Responsibilities

The School of Communication at HSUHK invites applications for the position of Associate Professor (Practice).  This is a unique opportunity for an experienced professional to contribute to the enhancement of teaching, industry engagement, and innovation in journalism and communication education.  The appointee will play a pivotal role in bridging academic theories with industry practices, ensuring that students graduate with the skills and knowledge to excel in the competitive communication landscape. 

The selected candidate is expected to:

  • deliver high-quality, practice-oriented instruction in courses such as News Reporting and Media Writing in Chinese and Business Journalism Practicum;
  • develop and deliver new courses that reflect cutting-edge industry trends, including AI-driven communication, digital content management, and media innovation;
  • establish and lead initiatives in media innovation, particularly in the integration of artificial intelligence into journalism and communication education;
  • build and maintain strong partnerships with media organisations, professional bodies, and government agencies in Hong Kong, the Greater Bay Area, Chinese Mainland, and among overseas Chinese communities, as well as other international stakeholders;
  • organise industry-focused events, such as guest lectures, seminars, and workshops, to facilitate knowledge exchange and connect students with seasoned professionals;
  • supervise student projects and internships, ensuring practical relevance and fostering hands-on learning experiences;
  • contribute to the development and review of the School's curriculum to ensure alignment with technological advancements and industry trends;
  • assist in programme accreditation and quality assurance processes to uphold academic rigour and high teaching standards; and
  • provide mentorship to junior faculty and students, fostering a collaborative and innovative academic environment.

 

Applicants Should
  • possess a doctoral degree in journalism, communication, media studies, or a closely related discipline;
  • demonstrate at least 10 years of progressive experience in the media and communication industry, with expertise in both traditional and digital media practices;
  • have a strong track record of teaching at the tertiary level, showing the ability to deliver practice-oriented courses and develop innovative curricula;
  • exhibit expertise in media innovation, particularly involving AI-driven communication and digital content management;
  • maintain a robust and diverse network within the media and communication industries in Hong Kong, the Greater Bay Area, Chinese Mainland, and internationally;
  • demonstrate strong organisational and communication skills to effectively manage collaborative projects and industry partnerships; and
  • show leadership and mentoring skills, with a commitment to advancing the School’s reputation as a leader in media and communication education.
