Within HSUHK, the School of Translation and Foreign Languages (STFL) offers a dynamic portfolio of programmes and is in the process of programme development and renewal. STFL also benefits from an extensive and growing network of partner institutions both in the Chinese Mainland and beyond. In terms of research, School staff achieve excellence in many different areas, while the School is home to two research centres, the GILT Research Centre and the Research Centre for Translation of Buddhist Texts.

School of Translation and Foreign Languages – Associate Professor / Assistant Professor
(Ref: AssoP/AsstP (STFL) 2026-05-22)

Responsibilities
  • deliver and coordinate undergraduate and postgraduate teaching;
  • develop and update course materials and, if the need arises, assist in the development of new programmes;
  • design assessments and undertake marking and feedback;
  • provide academic advising and supervise final year projects;
  • contribute to programme operation and quality assurance processes;
  • participate in School and University committees and support academic governance;
  • engage in scholarly research and publication; and
  • take on roles in other areas such as external engagement and student recruitment as appropriate.

 

Applicants Should
  • possess a doctoral degree in translation studies or a related discipline;
  • demonstrate a proven record of effective teaching at the tertiary level;
  • have a strong research and publication record;
  • preferably be specialised in one or more of the following areas: digital humanities, translation technology and artificial intelligence, localisation, or industry and professional practices; 
  • possess an excellent command of written and spoken English and Chinese.

Knowledge of an ASEAN language and/or expertise in ASEAN-focused intercultural communication or a related applied field (preferably with a focus on Thailand, Indonesia or Vietnam) may also be an advantage.
